  • Worship is…

    Posted by Luke Cunningham on July 19, 2010

    Worship is…

    Romans 12: 1-2 1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

    • We worship because of God’s mercy to us
    • It’s offering EVERYTHING… not SOMETHING
    • It’s a sacrifice
    • God LOVES our worship
    • It’s OPPOSITE of the world
    • It’s GOD’S will for you to worship
  • Doormat Christianity

    Posted by Luke Cunningham on July 19, 2010

    Too many people associate humility with becoming the worlds doormat to be trampled on, disrepsected, treated poorly, and ridiculed in the name of Jesus. I don’t believe Jesus gave us an example of becoming a doormat in His name for the sake of humility.

    Just because Jesus came to serve and not to be served doesn’t mean He came to be a doormat to be walked all over.

    When I think about this, I think of Jesus, nearing the end, when placed in front of Pilate, and asked if He was really the ”King of the Jews?”

    Jesus’ response? ”It is as you say.” I don’t see a Savior who, under intense fear and confusion, muttered under His breathe, ”It is as you say.” I picture a Savior who stood proud, with His head held high, in a voice of boldness and pride, starred Pilate in the face and proclaimed with passion, ”IT IS AS YOU SAY.”

    Jesus was a servant, but He definitely wasn’t a doormat. Don’t let people walk all over ou because of your faith.

    Be a servant. But serve BOLDY!

  • I hate Christians, but Love Christ

    Posted by Luke Cunningham on July 19, 2010

    Talking to a student a while back, one line hit me harder than ever: “I hate Christians, but I love Christ.”

    He went on to tell me how the “christians” at his school were most of the worst kids, and the sad thing was, they went around judging everyone else as they lead the parties on the weekends. He said the people who are the most judgmental, rude, and hypocritical were the “christians” at his school and he could no longer stand it. Absolutely broke my heart. Christ came into the world not to judge it, but to SAVE it. Here was a kid who couldn’t stand his own school sponsored Christian gatherings because of people who were acting more like pharisees than Jesus.

    Important thing to remember: “It’s ok for the world to hate us. But when our brothers hate us, we need to figure out why.”

  • Sermon in a Sentence

    Prayer is the scale in which God measures how heavy His influence is in our lives.

    For the first time in a long time, heavier is better!

    What happens?

    It’s easy to “be” Jesus in the Church, in front of Christians, and around people who love Jesus.

    But how do you react around people who don’t love Jesus.

    Players who play at their opponents level never win the big games and Christians who live at the crowds level never find victory in Christ!

  • Nowhere to go but up…

    Needless to say, my sophomore year our football team was nothing to brag about…

    We lost every game but one… As you can imagine, my Junior year, we had a new coach. I asked him what he was thinking taking over a team that was 1-9. I will never forget his response, “When you are at the bottom, there is nowhere to go but up.”

    If you find yourself at the bottom today, start climbing. There is only one direction for you to go!

    Legalism = Life because of Jesus
    Liberalism = Life with Jesus (sometimes)
    Lost = Life w/o Jesus
    Love = Life for Jesus
